The NCC Education regional conference for Africa and Middle East took place in Cape Town last week. Delegates from over 15 different countries attended along with NCC Education staff from South Africa and the UK.
Held at the modern Two Oceans Aquarium by the scenic V&A waterfront, delegates were greeted by NCC Education staff members and views of Table Mountain.
Allan Norton (General Manager for NCC Education) kicked off the conference as he welcomed all delegates. Peter Ford took centre stage shortly after with an informative presentation on the history of NCC Education and future plans.
“We believe there is a need to ensure today’s students are tomorrows creative thinkers” Peter Ford
Product Launches
Martin Buck’s presentation on NCC Education’s innovative programme; Digi was a huge success. Delegates took part in a task which made for lots of laughter as they learnt about algorithms by drawing aliens (yes, aliens). Interest in offering this programme was evident.
“Securing the next generation of digital innovators & entrepreneurs” Martin Buck
Accredited Centres
Several accredited centres were eager to share their NCC Education journey and provide attendees with more information about their countries. These included IDM, Whitefield, Intelligent Partners, IPMC, NACIT, CMAS, AEA, Computer Pride and Daffodil Intenational Academy. It was encouraging to hear them share success stories from their students.
University Partnerships
Greenwich University and University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) had their representatives attend the NCC Education Regional Conference. Each presented to delegates the history of their universities and how they work with NCC Education students. Graduates from these universities have gone on to work for top companies such as Google, IBM, and Twitter. It was fantastic to hear that Senior Lecturer Nicky Danino from UCLAN is encouraging girls to get into computing.
NCC Education Staff
Staff from NCC Education updated delegates on future plans and gave them chance to put forward any ideas they had. Feedback was well received by all. Emma Dawkin’s discourse on Quality highlighted the new exciting product development plans.
Gala Dinner and Robben Island
Other highlights of the conference was the gala dinner held on the first night. Guests dined next to a gigantic tank filled with stingrays, turtles and of course an array of fish. Ryan O’Connor the KFM Breakfast show host was the MC for the evening who shared his stories of growing up in South Africa and meeting Nelson Mandela.
There was even a special surprise…
.
On the second day everyone took a boat ride to the symbolic Robben Island where they went on an informative tour of the island.
Thank you to everyone who attended and participated.
