Softwarica College of IT and E-Commerce, Nepal, recently introduced a charity scheme aimed at increasing the availability of technology equipment for students in rural areas. Based in Kathmandu the centre has been providing internationally recognised IT and Computing qualifications in partnership with NCC Education since October 2010.
Youth Club of Softwarica is a social initiative run by Softwarica College students established with the primary objective of bridging the Information Technology gap between the readily available technology on offer to urban students and the plight of rural students with extremely limited access to the modern IT Technology. The scheme also aims to promote philanthropy among youths, working closely with Today’s Youth Asia magazine.
Recognising the gap between the IT education available in Nepal and the requirement of IT skills in the global economy, the founders of Softwarica have aimed to utilise local resources in preparing students to become global IT professionals. In keeping with this the scheme’s ‘Computer Donation Programme’ at the Shree Chandrodaya Higher Secondary School of Benighat 08, Dhading has provided a life changing opportunity for rural students struggling to access the technology required to learn necessary basic IT skills. The programme has so far seen members of Youth Club of Softwarica donate five sets of desktop computers to the school.
